1st Grade Worksheets

In first grade, the skills and concepts students learn become more advanced. Students build on what they learned in kindergarten and use their skills in different ways. Children become more comfortable with basic concepts and learning vocabulary and are ready to explore further.

Whether children are learning in school or at home, it’s important that they practice the skills they’re learning and that they’re provided the opportunity to gain a clear understanding of the concepts they’ve learned. Teachers will teach the curriculum in a variety of ways, including direct teaching, cooperative groups, working with manipulatives, interactive technology, games, and time for practice. They might also send homework and ask students to practice at home. Parents can contribute to their child’s learning by becoming involved in what they’ve done at school and reinforcing those skills at home. Parents can help with homework, discuss concepts, play board games, and use online resources such as puzzles, games, and printouts.
